The University of Edinburgh are looking for an experienced academic developer to work with an internal team to design and co-create an online training programme for staff involved in teaching online courses using new technologies such as automation and learning analytics to support students at scale.
The academic developer should bring a breadth of experience in developing staff development/academic development/professional development programmes and a very good understanding of how these can be delivered online using the tools provided in a VLE or distance learning platform. They will be competent in best practice and the practicalities of all aspects of online learning design and pedagogy. The successful applicant will also have hands on experience of teaching online, preferably with large groups, and in engaging learners and students. The successful applicant will also have clear strategies and plans for evaluating the success of staff development programmes.
The primary audience for the online programme will be academic staff; lecturers, teaching assistants or teaching fellows involved in teaching online. The content will also be used to assure quality by training new instructional design or other course support staff. University of Edinburgh staff will teach the programme, therefore a flexible design with considerations of sustainability will be required.
The University of Edinburgh team will provide guidance and input on the UoE online pedagogy, learning design techniques and related learning technology. The course will be delivered on the edX platform, the course build and any media production will also be undertaken by University staff.
The development programme should be available for an initial delivery late summer 2019.
